The Three Wise Güegües
TRADITIONAL GUEGUENSE - A historic dance and story about the historical rough relationship between the Spanish and Nicaraguan people. Their eccentric characters dress in colorful clothing, bells, and many strings hanging along the arms and in their ankles. The Spaniards wear white masks with elegant mustaches, and the Indians wear horse masks that symbolize their tough cultural heritage.
"Three Wise Güegües" is a parody of the well-known Japanese cultural icon "The Three Wise Monkeys". Resin replicas of the high relief of the Nicaraguan sculptor Harold Gonzalez Rivas, finished in a monochrome palette of different colors and assembled on an altarpiece of precious woods.
The Wise Monkeys state their Japanese names: Kikasaru, who promotes not to hear evil, Misaru - not to see evil, and Iguasaru - not to say evil. This expression had its origin in the tradition of the Chinese moral code of the Santai, the philosophy that enacted the use of these three senses, in the close inspection of the observable world.
